“Play This for That” (Mookie’s Chow Down)
It’s time for Mookie’s Chow Downs where we analyze the data and find some great pivot plays off chalk if that fits your building framework. While getting away from chalk is not mandatory, it helps you get different at points while getting to your favorite chalk plays elsewhere.
We apply the framework position by position: the Top 3 are driven first by raw projection/ceiling, while RST% tells us where the field is concentrating. A pivot only qualifies if we get a real ownership reduction without sacrificing too much SACP/P95/P99 access.
| Pos. | Top 3 / Chalk Reference | Proj. | RST% | Solver Read | Preferred Pivot | RST% | Pivot Thesis |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| QB | Jalen Hurts | 20.96 | 5.6% | Elite raw | Brock Purdy | 4.9% | ~30 SACP; strong SF–MIA tail |
| Lamar Jackson | 20.54 | 4.5% | Elite + already leverage | — | — | No need to pivot merely for ownership | |
| Jayden Daniels | 20.42 | 6.8% | Strong ceiling | Drake Maye | 5.2% | Lower owned with strong volatility/tail | |
| RB | Bijan Robinson | 22.87 | 17.1% | Clear raw #1 | De’Von Achane | 6.0% | Major ownership reduction + explosive tail |
| Christian McCaffrey | 19.85 | 55.4% | Massive field concentration | Ashton Jeanty | 3.3% | Extreme leverage; ~27.5 P95 | |
| Javonte Williams | 17.49 | 21.9% | Popular midrange | Saquon Barkley | 12.1% | Lower RST with better ceiling access | |
| WR | Jaxon Smith-Njigba | 18.81 | 14.7% | Best raw WR | Ja’Marr Chase | 9.9% | Ceiling remains elite at lower ownership |
| CeeDee Lamb | 17.83 | 27.3% | Concentrated chalk | Justin Jefferson | 9.2% | One of slate’s cleanest high-end pivots | |
| Justin Jefferson | 17.79 | 9.2% | Ceiling + leverage | Chris Olave | 4.1% | Deep ownership discount, correlated with BAL | |
| TE | Trey McBride | 14.62 | 5.8% | Raw #1 + leverage | — | — | Ownership already attractive |
| Tucker Kraft | 11.86 | 8.0% | Strong raw | George Kittle | 3.9% | Purdy correlation + right-tail access | |
| Colston Loveland | 11.62 | 7.5% | Strong raw | Mark Andrews | 4.3% | Lamar correlation at reduced ownership |
The biggest leverage situations
Christian McCaffrey is the clearest ownership decision on the slate. His 19.85 projection absolutely belongs near the top, but 55.4% RST is enormous. You don’t need to argue that CMC is a bad play. The question is whether Achane (6.0%) or Jeanty (3.3%) can reach a comparable tournament outcome often enough to justify the gigantic ownership savings. Our right-tail framework says they are legitimate alternatives.
CeeDee Lamb → Justin Jefferson is probably my favorite high-dollar WR pivot. Lamb has 17.83 projected points at 27.3%, while Jefferson sits essentially alongside him at 17.79 but only 9.2% RST. That’s roughly an 18 percentage-point ownership reduction with almost no raw-projection sacrifice. Jefferson also carries approximately a 28.9 P95 from our combined-source simulation.
At QB, the ownership is sufficiently spread out that I wouldn’t force leverage. Lamar Jackson at only 4.5% is particularly notable because our combined model had him around a 33-point P95 and slate-leading QB SACP (~31.7). That’s the exact opposite of fragile chalk: we have elite right-tail access without paying an ownership premium.
My strongest solver-style pivot pairs
If we’re looking specifically for meaningfully lower RST% + retained tournament-winning tail, these are the relationships I would emphasize:
- CMC 55.4% → Jeanty 3.3% / Achane 6.0% — maximum RB leverage.
- CeeDee 27.3% → Jefferson 9.2% — exceptionally little projection sacrificed for the ownership reduction.
- Javonte 21.9% → Saquon 12.1% — stronger ceiling access while reducing ownership.
- JSN 14.7% → Chase 9.9% — maintain elite WR talent/ceiling with a moderate ownership discount.
- Kraft 8.0% → Kittle 3.9% — lower ownership plus access to the SF–MIA game environment.
- Loveland 7.5% → Andrews 4.3% — useful especially inside Lamar + Andrews BAL–NO constructions.
For Single Entry, I would not try to pivot away from every good popular play. The cleaner construction is to retain one or two of the strongest raw-ceiling anchors—Bijan, JSN, McBride, Lamar/another elite QB—and get different at one of the positions where the ownership tax is extreme. CMC and CeeDee are the two clearest places where the solver gives us enough alternatives to make that decision meaningful.
